Individual admits sex offences against boys at youth camp
An individual who spiked candy with sedative and provided them to minors at a summer camp in the area has confessed to sexual offences against two young males both nine and 10.
The accused was arrested after eight minors and an older person fell ill at the location in the summer month.
The 76-year-old, from Ruddington in Nottinghamshire, admitted guilt to a multiple criminal counts when he was present at the courthouse on the end of the week.
However, he denied one particular crime he was charged with, which was involving a young boy.
The accused was remanded in custody prior to a subsequent court date on November 28th.
'Candy game'
Mary Prior KC, presenting evidence, detailed the defendant's actions to the court.
She stated his those affected were children from difficult backgrounds who were staying at a summer program which he operated.
Ruben played a "sweet game" with the children, the legal counsel stated, in which he would go into the boys' rooms when they were settling down and request they to eat sweets "rapidly".
She told the court the defendant had engaged in this activity with the boys "over an extended period", and minors had previously fallen ill the subsequent day.
She stated the defendant had been successful in rationalizing this for many years as the minors being "overexcited from fun", until his family member had concerns in recently.
Mrs Prior KC added: "This year his stepson had concerns about the situation, for good reason.
"They resolved" to have a look in the defendant's belongings."
The prosecutor explained items including baby oil, petroleum jelly and syringes were discovered, and his stepchild notified the authorities about his suspicions.
She stated the man continued to conduct the "sweet game" with six children that night - that Saturday - and they were all ill the next day.
"The police had not arrived by that stage," she stated further.
The oversight body, the police conduct office, previously told that it was examining the police response of the incident.
The prosecutor stated the children were having difficulty walking due to being ill, so Ruben's stepson contacted the law enforcement again.
She stated the defendant then played the "sweet game" in a area of five minors.
